Little Athletics - Competition

Friday Night Club Meets

The Port Adelaide Athletics Club meets each Friday night from 22nd September 2023 through to April 2024 from 5.45pm.

Athletes aged from 5 and up can compete in Little Athletics club events from October to March. Tiny Tots for 3-5 year old’s runs at the same time as the Little Athletics program.

Athletes compete in age groups in a supportive environment competing in different track and field events each week. Athletes are led as an age/gender group by a volunteer parent chaperone, through a range of athletics events. Club coaches are on site to teach them as they go.

Parents of athletes must be present at all times and are expected to get involved in the running of competition. Athletics requires many volunteers as there is so much happening at once. Parents or caregivers travel from event to event with their child to give support and to volunteer. Jobs would include, measuring throws, raking sand in a jumps pit, recording results etc.

The focus of Little Athletics is family fun and fitness, personal bests are acknowledged more than event wins. Friendships are formed between athletes and parents as they spend each competition night with the same group of people.

Other events conducted by South Australian Little Athletics Association (SALAA) held at Athletics SA Stadium during the season include Personal Best Days, State Relay Days, State Challenge and State Individual Championships.

FREE Come & Try sessions are offered for two weeks to any new athletes.

Athletes turning 12 this year and older can also compete in Athletics SA Interclub events from October to March.

Athletes compete in a graded competition against athletes from other clubs in a team environment.
